The holiday weekend

First off I think it’s really bizarre to have just me Lori and Kel at the shop today. Feels like a ghost town at work:) So this brought me to thinking about why everyone is taking off work all around the country today. I guess the real question is when a holiday falls on a weekend does everyone deserve to get a day off before or after that weekend?? I understand that if you think you should get a day off for every holiday and then it falls on a weekend maybe you feel ripped off?? As a business owner maybe you feel lucky that it fell on a weekend?? I’m not sure where I stand with this one. For us this time it didn’t matter too much, we already decided we weren’t going to get a live rodent shipment this week because it would mean that Saturday would be a long work day and everyone wanted to enjoy the 4th. But for a lot of companies in this failing economy I wonder how they feel about losing a day of productivity and in a lot of cases still having to pay their employees. Just looking at it from a business owners perspective and not as a worker. Or am I just out of wack with my thinking?? I guess if I just worked at some factory I would want the day off too, but then again with the shape that most businesses are in now a days maybe everyone should think about wanting to keep their job as much as getting a free day off?? What do you guys think??

LOL Scott and Brian...I think if I had to work with Steve every single day, I would have to kill him!
He knows what buttons to push to tick me off and he does it just for a reaction....MEN! :P
As far as working the holiday's and weekends...I work every other weekend anyhow so it's no big deal with me, and the holiday's my boss puts up a piece of paper for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years and we all can choose which ones we want to work or want off....that is great for those of use that have kids and stuff.
Myself I normally choose to work all of the holidays because well...we could always use more money.
Maybe when our snakes start producing for us in the future I can quit my job and just focus only on them, but as for now it takes both husband and wife working anymore just to make ends meet....ouch!
Yesterday Steve, myself, Ashli, and Dakota all met SAL half way and bought 6 new Corn Snakes from him....they are soooo cute! THANKS SAL!!! :-D
We are now up to 24 snakes as well as all the other animals that we have and I can't wait for the day that I do get to stay home and take care of them all.

Not only do I have to work on the 3rd, but the 4th as well. We won't be open for a full day today though. I totally understand where you're coming from as a sm. business student, I don't mind working the day before, after or even the day of a holiday, my collection isn't going to build itself.

Today is a paid holiday were I work, but there's allot of people working there today getting paid double time to get out orders....Even in todays bad economy, we just can't make enough it seems......they are even hiring about 40 more right now (which will put us over 700)..... The wife is even going to work there now,,,, in the past when Chey was in high school & me being stuck mainly on 2nd shift I wouldn't let her do shift work so Chey didn't come home to a empty house....but now that she's in college it frees the wife up & she'll be working 2nds also.....so we'll get to spend allot more time together...but I don't know that's a good thing....lol
